Vide-Poche:

Pockets and their contents

October 17-31

Embroidered pocket, Aimee Hagedorn. Decoupage vide poche, John Derian. Coin jewelry, Stephanie Norris. Hardwood worrystones, Jurgis Gaucys.

Vide-Poche: Pockets and Their Contents explores the transitions we make between domestic space and the outside world, and the objects, rituals, compulsions, and quirks that make these moments personal.

Join us in examining the little things we carry through the day, from the mundane to the magical, and our efforts to contain them, in the world and at home.

This show welcomes small-format work (3D and 2D), text, and digital media engaging with any or all of the following subjects:

  • The form and use of the vide-poche, catchall, coin dish, ring dish, stashbox, etc.;

  • Objects carried in pockets and emptied into a vide-poche: everyday necessities, found ephemera, lucky charms, talismans, etc.;

  • The form and use of pockets as they appear in garments, accessories, patching & mending, etc.

As a related experience, the show will also feature a community vide-poche into which everyone who visits us is invited to empty an item and from which everyone is invited to pocket an item, free of charge.

Work is requested by or before October 1st and can be received at Orcas Paley or shipped to 10300 61st Avenue South Seattle, WA 98178. Catalog information, photos, and digital assets can be emailed to peter (at) orcaspaley (dot com). Orcas Paley requests a 40% commission on sold work. A consignment agreement will be provided for participant review and approval.
